I was thinking about this on today’s walk – how I’ve only been posting trite comments on the terrain, how pretty the villages are, how big my blisters are, yadda yadda. And I was thinking how dull that is, and how inappropriate that is.

What I really want to say is – I’m fortunate. I have a wonderful supportive family and I have a wonderful supportive extended family through Scouting. I am privileged to know many great people through Scouting, most of them adults, but some of them my Scouts.

When I’ve been struggling at times, over the last few miles of each day, yes I’ve thought of the final day, yes I’ve thought of making my family proud and, yes, I’ve thought of the people of Nepal, but I’ve also thought of my Scouts, our Scouts.

Yes, I’ve got a lot of miles ahead of me. Yes, it’s going to hurt. But, what have I got to complain about? And thinking about some of my Scouts, and what I know some of them have been through this year, what have I got to complain about? I have to say I’m in awe. And it’s that thought that inspires. That thought that kicks me up the backside and drives me on.

I appreciate some who don’t know our Scouts may find this a little confusing, but I hope the sentiment is relatively clear.
