Less than three weeks to go now. Three weeks from now I’ll be most the way through my fourth day.

So, am I prepared? Not as much as I perhaps could be. Do I have time to do more preparation? Yes. So what do I need to do? Print maps, and walk. Walk a lot.

I’ve been thinking about the time I’m taking to walk the 200 miles, and at times, I’ve thought that perhaps it’s not challenging enough. I think about the times (perhaps a long time ago now) when I’ve walked between twenty and thirty miles in a day, and when I’ve walked twenty odd miles a few days on the trot (forgive the pun). However, that was a long time ago. It was when I didn’t weigh quite as much and it was when I was almost physically fit (almost). The last time I tried walking anywhere near this amount of miles, around fourteen miles a day, several days running (sorry) was plenty. It was more than plenty, actually. The day after I’d walked 100 miles in 7 days, I had to side-step up and down the stairs because my legs wouldn’t fully cooperate.

So, I think that puts my mind at rest. It is a challenge, a suitable challenge. But, one has to move upward as well as forward with these things – perhaps after I’ve completed this challenge (and after I’ve become somewhat fitter as a result), I should look to the next one. Let’s concentrate on getting this one out of the way first though.
