It’s a terrible film, it really is, but in some bizarre ways I like it. But that’s entirely besides the point. My post has nothing to do with an A-movie which should have been a B-movie.

Tomorrow we’re on our way. Tomorrow we travel up to Edale to enjoy a few hours hanging around in the sunshine (perhaps a beer also), before then undertaking the task at hand. Last time we stayed at the youth hostel, which, quite apart from anything else, is not what you would call very central to Edale. Last time we strolled into Edale for a pint or two at the Old Nags Head, then meandered back along the fields to what is effectively a high school outward bound centre. I believe this time around the schools have entirely overrun the place.

I can’t really remember much of note from those first couple of days of PW1, other than the mist and rain, and then missing the bottom of Jacob’s Ladder. Was I as apprehensive as I am now? Probably not. I was younger, fitter and didn’t have a mortgage. I’m apprehensive now because I’m 20 years older, 20 years’ worth of not enough exercise and not the right sort of food. But I learnt a lot on my last jaunt around Leicestershire, about what I’m capable of, and that was only two years ago. Yes, the Pennines are more challenging, but at least I have a partner this time. Yes, it’s entirely likely that we may want to kill each other at some (or indeed many) points on the hike, but at least we can sympathise with each others pain.

In any case, on Saturday morning, it’s happening. And, for good or bad, it’s not looking like rain is going to be a problem… at least, for the next few days.
